Online desk : A fugitive convict, who was sentenced to life term imprisonment in a murder case, has been arrested after 27 years from Kashimpur union parishad in Gazipur city on Thursday night.
The convict is Kamal Hossain, 52, of Purura village under Bhaluka upazila in Mymensingh district.
According to police, Kamal Hossain developed an affair with one Suraiya Khatun of Bharadoba village. They got married in 1996 without informing their families.
Few days later, the convict came to know that Suraiya got married with two other persons. He engaged into feud with his wife over the matter.
Later, the convict got married with another woman. He then killed Suraiya and hide the body in a bathroom of a neighbour Quddus Mia’s house in Rangipara after keeping it inside a sack. Police recovered the body seven days of missing of the woman.
Hazrat Ali, the victim’s father filed a case with Bhaluka Police Station against Kamal Hossain, Ismail Hossain, Helena Khatun, Taraf Hossain, Jamila Khatun, Morjina Khatun and Abdur Razzak.
On July 21, 2019, a court sentenced Kamal Hossain to life-term imprisonment and also fined him Tk 10,000, in default, he has to suffer three months imprisonment.
Besides, the other accused were acquitted from the case as charges brought against them were not proved.
Bhaluka Model Police Station officer-in-charge Kamal Hossain said acting on a tip-off, a team of police conducted a raid in a tea stall of Kashimpur UP and arrested the man.
Legal steps would be taken in this regard, the OC added.
