Online Desk : The motorcade of BNP central committee vice-chairman and former home minister Air Vice Marshal (Retd) Altaf Hossain Chowdhury was attacked and vandalised at Mirzaganj in Patuakhali district on Saturday (April 8, 2023).
The incident happened at about 11:00am on Saturday at three-road crossing in Subidkhali under Mirzaganj upazila, leaving three persons injured.
Among them, Mirzaganj Upazila Chhatra Dal joint convener Md Nazmul Mridha and Union Chhatra Dal member Md Al Amin were admitted to the upazila health complex. Upazila Mohila vice-chairman Hasina Begum was given first aid.
Mirzaganj Upazila BNP president Md Shahabuddin Nannu said as part of the central programme, BNP had a sit-in programme at Subidkhali at 11:00am on Saturday. Leaders and workers of the party led by BNP central committee vice-chairman and former home minister Air Vice Marshal (Retd) Altaf Hossain Chowdhury were goint to join the programme from Kathaltali area. They came under attack on their way to Subidkhali. At that time, local Awami League candidate Bipul Haldar’s men suddenly attacked the motorcade, vandalised a microbus and several motorcycles.
Contacted, Mirzaganj Police Station OC Md Anwar Hossain said no incident happened at the BNP’s sit-in venue. However, some unidentified people vandalised a microbus on the way. Later, police went there and brought the situation under control.
Meanwhile, BNP observed its sit-in at Upazila Judicial Magistrate Court premises following the incident. With Upazila BNP president Md Shahabuddin Nannu in the chair, the sit-in programme was addressed by Altaf Hossain Chowdhury as the chief guest.
