Online desk : A man was arrested by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel along with two gold bars worth around Tk 85 lakh in Jashore on Saturday.
The arrested is Md Saidul Islam, 25, resident of Panchbhulot village of Sharsha upazila in the district.
BGB official said in a press release, signed by BGB-21 Khulna Battalion Captain Lt Col Mohammad Tanveer Rahman, that tipped-off they came to know that a consignment of gold would be smuggled to India from Bangladesh through Panchbhulot border.
Being informed, a BGB team conducted a raid in the area and arrested him when he was heading towards the border by a three-wheeler.
The team recovered the gold bars weighing around one kilogram from his possession. The market price of the seized gold bars is estimated at Tk 85 lakh, the official said.
Legal steps would be taken in this regard, the official added.
