Convict Abul Kalam Chowdhury, 70, is the son of late Abdul Latif Chowdhury, of Charia Kazi Para under Hathazari Police Station.
RAB-7 said Abul Kalam Chowdhury had dispute for a long time over land property with three siblings — Abul Basharm Badshah and Kashem. In sequel to it, Abul Kalam Chowdhury and his accomplices first brutally hacked and then shot dead the three brothers when they were drinking tea at a tea-stall at about 11:00am on May 26, 2003.
Later, Kazi Mafzal Master, brother of three slain brothers, filed a murder case against 20 people including Abul Kalam Chowdhury with Hathazari Police Station being the plaintiff. Later, police submitted a chargesheet against the accused at the court. Subsequently, the court awarded life-term jail sentence to Abul Kalam Chowdhury and fined him Tk 50,000.
RAB-7 Senior Assistant Director (Media) Md Nurul Absar said they arrested three murder convict Abul Kalam Chowdhury conducting a drive on the basis of a tip-off from a rented house at Chandgaon in the port city at about 1:00pm on Friday (April 7). He was later handed over to the police station concerned to take further legal measures against him.
